To mix paint for an HVLP spray gun, you will need to do the following:

Mixing the paint is a crucial step as I have mentioned more than once. But I also said that is doesn’t just depends on the way you mix it. There is the type of paint and the mixer at play here.

Among other things, sometimes it is already necessary to know the kind of gun you have on hand.

So, in the upcoming paragraphs, I will explain mixing various kinds of paints for spray gun.

Mixing oil-based paint

I mix 4 by 3. That means 4 parts paint, l color, and 3 parts paint thinner. This is also another type of paint that you cannot mix with water!

Thus, you should always mix them with acetone, xylene, or mineral spirits. You should not also use lacquer thinner or thinners of this nature. Because they don’t work well with Rust-Oleum paints. 

When mixing Rustoleum paint for a spray gun:

• First, be sure to mix the paint well before using it in the gun. 
• Second, use a clean container to mix the paint in so that there is no contamination. 
• Third, when you are ready to use the paint, thin it out with a little bit of water so that it will flow through the gun easily.

Remember HVLP paint sprayers are NOT like airless paint sprayers which atomize paint using a compressor and can spray with much higher PSI.
